George Quick Jr. GalwayGeorge Quick Jr., 89, of State Highway 29, Galway, died Thursday morning, March 20, 2014, at St. Mary's Healthcare, Amsterdam, following a short illness. He was born in Ballston Spa on February 3, 1925, a son of George and Bessie Robinson Quick and was educated in Charleton. George moved to Galway in 1939 and was a lifelong area resident and a landmark for the community. Mr. Quick owned and operated Quick's Garage in Galway for more than 30 years, retiring in 2006. He was always willing to help others and enjoyed the many friendships he made at the garage. George was a veteran of the US Army and proudly served during the Korean Conflict. He was predeceased by his wife, Jane A. Quick. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara (Lloyd) Gifford of Galway; two grandchildren, Lloyd Gifford Jr. and Tanya Sue Gifford; several great-grandchildren; and his care givers and special friends, Jordan (Amber) May of Providence. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (corner of Route 29 and Black Street), Johnstown. Burial will follow at Barkersville Cemetery, Middle Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saratoga County Sheriff Officers Assoc., Galway Volunteer Fire Company, Galway Volunteer Ambulance Corps, or to the Providence Volunteer Fire Department.
