Leah R. Leonard RotterdamLeah Rose Leonard, 75, passed peacefully on March 23, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness. Born on February 5, 1939 to James and Lucy Molloy, the youngest of nine, Leah grew up in Bellevue and raised her family in Rotterdam. A devoted wife and mother, Leah is survived by William E. Leonard, her husband and the love of her life for 60 years; her children, Ed Leonard (fiance Roseanne Benequisto), Christine Schuppe (fiance Ray Senecal) and Corine Lombardo (husband Randy); her grandchildren, Logan and Deven Schuppe, and Sabrina Lombardo and great-granddaughters, Kristen Rossler and Angela Castro. She was predeceased by her grandson, Paul Tate. She is also survived by her brothers, Earl and Robert Molloy; her sister, Josephine Shelley; numerous nieces and nephews, countless friends and Millie. Leah was an avid reader who loved mysteries and will be fondly remembered for her dedication to the Schenectady County Public Library, where she served on the board of trustees for over a decade and the Friends of the Library as a board member. Over the years, she dedicated thousands of hours and was instrumental in the success of 25 years of library book sales and the creation of the Whitney Book Corner, in memory of her beloved sister, Patricia Whitney. Throughout her life her primary focus was raising her children and she periodically worked outside of her home in secretarial and office management positions. She served as treasurer for St. Paul's Episcopal Church for many years and most recently served as treasurer for Patriot Hills of New York, Inc., a non-profit organization supporting combat veterans. Calling hours will take place at Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave., Schenectady on Saturday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by a Christian service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Fairview Ave., Schenectady at 12 p.m. with a reception to follow. Burial at Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leah's name may be made to the Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library, 99 Clinton St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
