Sean David DeMerchant Jr. HalfmoonSean David DeMerchant Jr., 22, of Smith Road, died on Thursday, April 24, 2014, after losing his courageous battle with addiction while attending SUNY Oswego. He was born in Schenectady, New York on July 11, 1991, and was the son of Sean D., Sr. and Tricia Jablonski DeMerchant. He was a graduate of Shenendehowa High School, Class of 2009. Sean was ready to graduate this May from SUNY Oswego with a bachelor's degree in marketing, with a minor in economics. He was passionate about hockey and grew up playing for Clifton Park Youth Hockey and Shenendehowa varsity hockey. At SUNY Oswego, he was a member of the DKK fraternity. Sean was a communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park. In addition to his parents, Sean is survived by his beloved brother, Joshua DeMerchant of Halfmoon; maternal grandparents, David and Virginia Jablonski of Halfmoon; his paternal grandfather, Robert DeMerchant of Troy and his paternal great-grandmother, Pauline DeMerchant. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles, Kristin (Jablonski) Southworth, Joseph and Lisa (Jablonski) Lotano, Eric and Kristy DeMerchant, Lisa DeMerchant and cousins, Madison, Robbie, Mary and Braylon. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at the St. Edward the Confessor Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Sean's name to either the Addiction Care Center of Albany, 90 McCarty Avenue, Albany, New York 12202 or Hudson Mohawk Recovery Services, 1724 Fifth Avenue, Troy, New York 12180.
