Dr. S. Metin Koluksuz SchenectadyDr. S. Metin Koluksuz passed away on Wednesday, May 14, after a brief illness. Dr. Koluksuz was born January 4, 1932 in Istanbul, Turkey. Dr. Koluksuz graduated from medical school in Ankara, Turkey and came to the United States and did his internship at Albany Memorial Hospital, his residency at Ellis Hospital and fellowship at St. Clare's Hospital. He also served in the Turkish Air Force. Dr. Koluksuz was a distinguished general surgeon on the medical/dental staffs of both Ellis and St. Clare's Hospital for 46 years until his retirement. He began his medical career as an emergency room physician before starting his practice in general surgery. After his retirement, he continued to work at the Wound Care Center at Ellis Medicine on the McClellan campus for 13 years, until December 2012, when he retired from practicing medicine. Dr. Koluksuz was predeceased by his parents, Fahri and Sureyya Koluksuz; his wife, Beyza; his brother, Cetin; his sister, Guven, and a niece, Yasmin. He is survived by his brother, Tekin; sister-in-law, Sabiha; two nieces and several nephews, who reside in Istanbul. Dr. Koluksuz is also survived by dear friend, Lois Wakefield and her extended family; and longtime friends, Dr. Oscar Lirio and Dr. Dennis David, who have enjoyed weekly luncheons and special adventures together in their retirement. Dr. Koluksuz was a dedicated professional who was devoted to taking care of people in the community. In his leisure time, he was an avid skier a true Yankees fan and a master craftsman at wood working. He took great pride in cultivating his roses, and was an accomplished culinary aficionado, who enjoyed hosting dinner parties and picnics for his friends. A special thanks to the staff of Albany Medical Center Surgical ICU and E-3, and in particular, sincere thanks to Lorraine Cox, Nurse Practitioner, Palliative Care, who personally went above and beyond the scope of her duties to facilitate communication with the family in Istanbul. Per Dr. Koluksuz's request, there will be no services. Burial will be private.
