Joan A. Proudman MiddleburghJoan A. Proudman, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at her residence following an illness of eight months. Born on August 27, 1934 in Staten Island, she was daughter of the late Henry and Jessie Myer Traulsen. Joan was raised there, until December of 1951, when the family moved to Huntersfield. Joan graduated from Gilboa High School with the class of 1953. She worked briefly for Irving Trust Company in New York City. Joan married William H. Proudman Jr. on August 24, 1957. She became a homemaker and did the bookkeeping for her husband's farm. Joan served as Conesville Town Clerk while her husband was serving as Town Supervisor. She was a 4-H leader for many years, and a mother figure to many. Joan formerly served as Treasurer of Flat Creek Baptist Church. She made wedding cakes for many years, enjoyed golfing, genealogy and journaling. Joan was an excellent cook and assembled a large collection of cookbooks, which she enjoyed reading. She also enjoyed assembling photo albums for her family, baking and crocheting. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, William H. Bill Proudman Jr.; children, Robert W. Proudman (Beverly) and Lori Proudman (John Knoebel); siblings, Claudia Roche, Jessie Garringer and Terry Robillard; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; and her devoted caregivers, Melissa Scott and Molly Perry. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and Martin Traulsen. Joan has been cremated privately. Memorial calling hours will be Thursday, May 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. at A.J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville. A memorial service will be Friday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at Conesville United Methodist Church, followed by burial of her ashes in Manorkill Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Marathon for a Better Life, PO Box 268, Warnerville, NY 12187, or to Catskill Area Hospice, 795 East Main Street, Suite 11, Cobleskill, NY 12043 will be appreciated.
