Joyce E. Viall SchenectadyJoyce E. Viall, 78, of Schenectady, passed away on June 16, 2014, at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, after a long battle with kidney disease. Joyce was born on June 3, 1936 in Schenectady, the daughter of the late Frederick and Geraldine Esmay Viall. Joyce was a lifelong resident of the area, and attended local schools. She was employed by General Electric at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) for over 35 years, retiring in 1992. Over the course of her career, Joyce worked her way up from a secretary to the manager in document control. Prior to her battle with kidney disease, Joyce spent her retirement doing things that she loved, such as fishing and traveling. Enjoying the sunshine and outdoors led her to wintering in Florida and spending summers on Sacandaga Lake. Spending time with family and close friends was always extremely important to Joyce. Her daily call with her brother, Wayne, prior to his passing, was something the family joked about, as neither of their days were complete without it. Joyce's love of dogs never left her without a furry child, most recently, Teddibear. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, Wayne Viall in November, 2013. Survivors include her two nephews, Frederick Rick (Anna Maria) Viall of Rotterdam and David (Nancy) Viall of Glenville; lifetime friend and caregiver, Barbara Franklin of Mayfield; a cousin, Joseph Carpenter of Rexford; four great-nieces and nephews, David, Michael, Maria and Alexander Viall; and a sister-in-law, Nancy L. Viall of Rotterdam. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Memory Gardens, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the , 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016 ( or Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302 ( To express condolences, visit .
