Roger D. Maxwell MiddleburghRoger D. Maxwell, 79, formerly of River Street, died peacefully in his home in Cobleskill on June 22, 2014, with his wife of 57 years by his side. Born January 6, 1935, in Albany, he was the son of the late Marvin and Ada (Edwards) Maxwell. Roger worked for 35 years at Schoharie Central School, first as an Industrial Arts and Mechanical Drawing teacher and then as the business administrator. From 1962 through 1969, he was director of Continuing Education for the Schoharie School District. Roger contributed to his community by serving on the Middleburgh Central School Board of Education, was an active member and past president of Schoharie Rotary, member of the Schoharie Colonial Heritage Association, former trainer of leaders for Boy Scouts of America, and member of the Middleburgh Volunteer Fire Department and Middleburgh Reformed Church. Over the years, he was invited as a guest lecturer at various organizations as well as on American Antiques. Along with appraising, Roger bought and sold antiques. He loved his family and friends and will be remembered for his work ethic and willingness to always lend a helping hand to those in need. Survivors include his wife, Helen (Turner) Maxwell of Cobleskill; three children, Marcia Maxwell (John) France of Princetown, Cheryl Maxwell (Glen VanWie) of Elizabethtown, and Douglas Maxwell of Guilderland and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the Middleburgh Reformed Church, River St., Middleburgh with co-officiates, Howard Bartholomew and Rev. Jeffrey Kelley.
