Frances T. Gleason SchenectadyFrances T. Gleason, 90, of Clayton Road, died Friday, July 18, 2014 at Ellis Hospital. Mrs. Gleason was born in Schenectady to the late John and Hedwig Shier and was a lifelong city resident. She was a graduate of the former Nott Terrace High School and was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church. Mrs. Gleason taught ceramic classes for 25 years. She loved playing Bingo, Skat, doing ceramics, knitting, crocheting and cross stitching. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and her cat, Princess. Mrs. Gleason was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Robert E. Gleason, who died in 2010. She is survived by five children, Robert G. Gleason of Schenectady, Mark (Doreen) Gleason of Rotterdam, Jane (Lester) DeVarnne of Scotia, Rick (Tina) Gleason of West Glenville and William Gleason of Glenville; one sister, Alice Cipriano of Schenectady and one brother, John Shier of Glenville; eight grandchildren, Noelle (Craig) Ricciardi of Hobe Sound, FL, Monique Gleason (Chris) DePalma of Clifton Park, Tiffany (Joseph) Schillaci of Rotterdam, Ryan (Amy) Gleason of Radondo Beach, CA, Renee DeVarnne, Scott (Jennifer) DeVarnne of Fuquay Varina, NC, Michele McTighe of Saratoga Springs and Michael Gleason of Colonie; 11 great-grandchildren, Atteala, Gina, Samuel, Steven, Katie, Addison, Maxwell, Ethan, Claire, Bella and Connor. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service which will be conducted Thursday morning at 10:15 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 730 Union Street. Calling hours will be Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation of Schenectady, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
