Albert Mannato, 83, of Schenectady, died peacefully Friday, February 25, 2011, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness. Al was a life- long resident of Schenectady. He was employed at General Electric for 40 years as a gas turbine assembler before he retired in 1987. Al also served in the United States Army during World War II. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Flora (Della Selva) Mannato; children, Kathy (John) Leone, Joanne (David) Breakell, Diane (Richard) Parks of Olathe, Kansas, Steven (Gina) Mannato and Vincent (Sarah) Mannato; three brothers Anthony Mannato, John Mannato and Michael (Delores) Mannato. Cherished "Poppy" to grandchildren, Marissa, Nikki, David, Brandon, Tara, Matthew, Eric and Jenna; and extended family Marianne Maggio, Lou Breakell, Megan, Kendrah, Alexa and Maria Stewart. Al is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Jennie Mannato; his brother Peter Mannato; and his father-in-law and mother in law, Frank andMary Della Selva. Al enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling and especially taking vacations and trips to the casinos with his family. Al also enjoyed cooking and visiting with family and friends. Al's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to doctors Chang, Cospito, Goodman, Schumacher and Toll and their staffs. In addition, a special thank you to the Community Hospice of Schenectady Team, Nori, Louise, Cindy, Diane, Susan and Connie for their caring compassion, support and guidance. Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home, followed at 11 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Entombment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, Niskayuna. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations maybe made in his memory to: The Church of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 1255 Pleasant Street, Schenectady, 12303 or Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, 12308.
