Gary Joseph Torino, 64, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at St. Peter's Hospital after a long illness. Gary was born on December 27, 1946 in Sidney, NY. He received his bachelor's degree from UAlbany and was employed by G.J. Torino & Co. Insurance Agency. He served in the National Guard Reserves for five years. Gary was a member of the Alpha Pi Alpha Fraternity at University at Albany. He was an amazing basketball coach for 20 years, and an avid golfer. He was witty and was known for his sense of humor while throwing back some cocktails with friends. Gary was a loving and devoted father and his girls were his pride and joy. Gary married his wife, Kathleen Torino, on October 25, 1969. She passed away November 19, 2006. Gary was also predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Eloise Torino. Survivors include his daughters, Dayna and Jenna Torino; brothers, Rene (Marie) Torino, and Julian (Debbie) Torino; aunt, Mary Przybilski; nieces, nephews and goddaughter, Kerrisa Smith; and close family friends, Mary Pat and Bob Smith. Calling hours 6 to 8 this evening at the Demarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 Friday morning at St. Gabriel's Church. Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to University at Albany Athletic Association. Arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the R.J. Deluccia Funeral Home.
