William Green III LathamWilliam Green III, 85, of Latham, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012. Beloved husband for 63 years of Jane M. Stewart Green. Born and educated in Schenectady, William was the son of the late William and Viola F. Horstmyer Green Jr. He was a graduate of Cornell University '49 where he earned his bachelor's degree in agriculture. He resided in Latham for most of his life. William and brother, Robert, were owners and operators of the landmark Green's Ice Cream and area convenience stores in Schenectady and the Capital District. His generosity to family, friends and community will be a continuing source of inspiration to all who knew him. He was a member of the Niskayuna Reformed Church and volunteered his time and skills in many organizations. A Life and Charter member of the Verdoy Volunteer Fire Department and Mended Hearts, Chapter 13. He traveled extensively and enjoyed hiking, jigsaw puzzles and needlepoint. William most loved his family, home, church and Rotary. His 57 years of perfect attendance in Rotary is a testament to the devotion and planning he brought to all his endeavors. In addition to his beloved wife, Jane, he is survived by his daughter, Jill (John V.) Ennis; his grandchildren, Ryan W. Volpe, John Ennis and Daniel Ennis; his brother, Robert Green of Florida; friend and caregiver, Mike Volpe and his niece and nephew. He was predeceased by his son, William Green IV and his daughter, Cheryl A. Green. Funeral service will be Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Niskayuna Reformed Church, 3041 Troy-Schenectady Road, Niskayuna with the Reverend Dr. Scott A. DeBlock officiating. Family and friends are invited and may call at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Monday, December 10, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Edgewood Chapel Mausoleum.
