Alfred H. Allen Central BridgeAlfred H. Allen, 93, of Grosvenor's Corners Road, Central Bridge died Sunday, December 9th, 2012 at the Baptist Nursing and Retirement Center in Scotia where he has resided since January 2012. Mr. Allen was born November 17, 1919 in the Town of Carlisle, a son of John Howard and Anna (Hogan) Allen. He attended the Central Bridge Schoolhouse and later, graduated from Schoharie High School. He began his working career at the former Sheffield Creamery in Central Bridge before enlisting in the U.S. Army in September of 1941. He served his country during WWII as a truck driver, and later was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to Schoharie County and began working at the former Parson's Ford in Central Bridge prepping new cars and later, McCarthy Ford and eventually worked at Rodewig Chevrolet and Gary Morgan Chevrolet, retiring in 1989. Upon his retirement, he worked a short time at Howe Caverns. He and his wife, Marion, enjoyed traveling around the country accumulating nearly 200,000 miles on their motorcycle. Alfred was a member of the Central Bridge Fire Police, the Central Bridge United Methodist Church, Central Bridge Boy Scouts and the American Legion. Along with riding motorcycles for 45 years, he was a member of the Schoharie Valley M.C., Northeast BMW M.C., Saratoga Thoroughbred BMW M.C. and the Leatherstocking Touring M.C. He also enjoyed camping, photography, bowling, roller skating, ice skating, cross country skiing, mowing grass and plowing driveways. Survivors include his wife, Marion (Bogardus) Allen, whom he married June 9, 1946 and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, December 14th at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main Street, Schoharie with burial following in the Sloansville Valley Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home.
