Roy E. Phelps AmsterdamRoy E. Phelps, 83, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully at his home on February 12, 2013. His loving wife, Dolores, of many years, was by his side. He was born September 2, 1929 in Schenectady, NY. He was the son of the late George Phelps, Sr. and Emily Barrett. Roy lived his life to the fullest on this earth, playing softball for General Electric, fishing, gardening, playing bass in a country band called The Drifters for many years with family and friends. His other love was trucking down the highway, which he did for many years. His wheels turned longest for Wotowicz Trucking of Clifton Park, NY until he retired. After experiencing a stroke and having ill health, Roy still remained positive and enjoyed many home activities. Roy was a man of God, he loved his family and his country. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and fought bravely for his country in the Korean War. In addition to his loving wife, Dolores Phelps, he is survived by brothers, Robert Pete Phelps (Donna) and Daniel Phelps (Ellen); sisters, Virginia Agresta and Shirley Bubniak; a brother-in-law, Claude Farone and many nieces, nephews and cousins that also survive. Roy was predeceased by a son, Mark A. Phelps; along with his brothers, George Phelps Jr., Johnny, Guy, Tommy, Bill and Joey Phelps; sisters, Ines Gibson and Rose Kwiatkowski, along with several other loved ones. A funeral for Roy will take place on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Betz Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010. Family and friends are invited to visit one hour prior from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. before the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial will take place after the service at the Memory Gardens Family Cemetery in Amsterdam.
