Shirley Joyce Overbeek Wilson, NCShirley Joyce Overbeek, 80, of Wilson, NC, died February 23, 2013 after a long illness. She was born on May 24, 1932 in Hagedorn Mills, a daughter of the late Ernest and Marion Kronsbein and was a graduate of Galway schools. In 1953, Shirley graduated from Albany Medical Center School of Nursing as a registered nurse and was employed in the emergency room there for many years. Later, she worked in a doctor's office in Schenec- tady. Shirley and her family trav- eled and lived in Taiwan for two years and she became flu- ent in Chinese. Returning to North Carolina, she graduated Meredith College with a diplo- ma in music and taught piano in her home. Mrs. Overbeek was a member of the Reformed Church in Cary, NC, where she served as music and choir di- rector. Shirley loved to paint on glass and slate, enjoyed gar- dening and growing flowers, and worked with her brother at his antique shop in Zebulon, NC. She was trained in Tae Kwon Do, along with her grandson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Norman Henry Over- beek, in 2005; a brother, Paul E. Kronsbein; and a sister, Audrey K. Alff. Survivors include a daugher, Barbara Wilson; a grandson, David Wilson, both of North Carolina; a son, James Paul Overbeek of Nevada; a sister, Linda (Richard) Harblin of Middle Grove; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A private service will be held at Foster Hill Cemetery, Gal- way at a later date. Local arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 111 County High- way 106, Johnstown.
