William Borntraeger ScotiaWilliam H. Borntraeger, 85, of Cherry Lane, passed away peacefully Friday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, being a patient since November 19, 2012. Born June 5, 1927 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of the late Howard and Freda Ruback Borntraeger. He attended schools in Amsterdam until moving to Schenectady as a teenager where he graduated from Nott Terrace High School. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran of the WWII. He worked restoring cars for several area garages before becoming an insurance adjuster for Kemper Insurance Company in Albany, NY. Bill was an automotive historian belonging to several antique car clubs. He was lifetime member of the Antique Automobile Club of America and a member of the Saratoga Automobile Museum. Bill spent a lifetime collecting antique car literature, enjoyed restoring and owning several antique cars and together with his wife Elizabeth attended antique car shows across the country. They attended the Hershey Car Show in Pennsylvania for over 40 years. On April 29, 1961 he married the former Elizabeth Wilcox who passed away in May 28, 2011. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Carol Sendzicki and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. Burial will take place in Hagaman Cemetery with military honors. A calling hour will be held on Saturday from 12 noon until the time of the service.
