John W. Fowler RotterdamJohn W. Fowler, 79, died Friday morning, July 5th at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born and educated in Rotterdam, John was the son of the late Roy J. and Emma (Ven Ette) Fowler. A graduate of Draper High School, John served with the United States Navy during the Korean War. A retired detective with the Rotterdam Police Department, John served the Rotterdam community for over 33 years. He was a member of the Police Benevolent Association and the Rotterdam Elks # 2157. Predeceased by his siblings, Roy Jr. and William Fowler, Evelyn Strenka and Josephine Chemelewski. John is survived by his wife of 45 years, Martha Midge (Riddell) Fowler; and his children, Brian Fowler of Schenectady, David Fowler of Georgia, and Joella Fowler of Alabama; a brother, James Fowler of Malone; two grandchildren; as well as several stepchildren, stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning, July 9th at 11 a.m. at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the services. Interment in Park View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John'smemory to the Capital District Dialysis Center, 650 McClellan Street, Schenectady, NY 12304.
