John W. Thurlow MayfieldMr. John W. Thurlow of Mayfield, New York and Fort Myers, Florida, age 91, passed away on August 11, 2013, at Health Park Hospital, Fort Myers, Florida after a long illness. He was born on January 2, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He served three years in the U.S. Army and saw action with the 106th Infantry Division, 589 Field Artillery in the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), the Rhineland, Central Europe, and Northern France. He married his wife, Joyce Kitty Goodwin, on August 8, 1946, and subsequently joined the General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York. He retired in 1980 as general manager of the Distribution Assemblies Department. He then became C.E.O. of LOK Products in Fullerton, California, and in 1984 he retired to Mayfield, New York and wintered in Fort Myers, Florida. While in Mayfield, he attended the Baptist Church of Northville. He was a member of the Mayfield Service Club and a former member of the Mayfield Yacht Club. In Schenectady, he was a member of Lodge No. 1174 F. & A.M. In Florida, he attended the Village Church at Shell Point Retirement Community and was a member of the Whiskey Creek Golf Club. John loved to boat, take motor home trips, and play golf. He enjoyed many cruises with his wife, Joyce. They celebrated 67 years of marriage on August 8, 2013. John especially loved to participate in the annual Cinnamon Cove Variety Show where he wrote and performed many comedy skits. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Goodwin Thurlow; a son, Timothy John Thurlow of Chicago, Illinois; a daughter, Linda Thurlow Thomas and husband, Craig; granddaughter, Kate Thomas Legere and husband, Matthew; grandson, Max Thomas and wife, Kelly, and great-granddaughter, Arly Arden Thomas, all of Ojai, California. A memorial service will be held at the Baptist Church of Northville, Northville, NY, Saturday, September 28 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a
