Margaret Angle CobleskillMargaret Mae Haskins Angle passed away at home on Wednesday, February 26, 2014. She was born on November 21, 1927 in Rhinebeck, NY, the daughter of Donald W. and Mae (Odell) Haskins. Margaret came to Cobleskill in 1945 to attend Agricultural and Technical College, where she earned an associate's degree in early childhood education. While at college, she met William M. Angle, whom she married on April 18, 1947. Margaret owned a mimeograph business in the early 1960s and worked as an office manager and bookkeeper for Berard Oil Company and O & E Petroleum. She was a court clerk for the Village of Cobleskill Court for several years as well as a notary public. Margaret retired from her position as office manager of the Cobleskill Sunshine Fair, a job she loved, after 20 years of service. Throughout her life, Margaret enjoyed league bowling, racing stock cars, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very proud to accomplish her goal of driving all types of vehicles including stock cars, a train, and was the only female to ever drive Cobleskill Fire Department's 1923 American LaFrance antique fire truck. Music was a centerpiece of her life. In her younger years, she loved singing harmony with her family. Her talents included playing piano, ringing bells, and singing in a number of choirs. She was lifetime member of the Auxiliary Company of the Cobleskill Fire Department, having served as president. Margaret was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Zircon Unit of the former Community Hospital of Schoharie County, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Literacy Volunteers of America, the Red Hat Ladies, and served on the Board of Directors of the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery Association. She also was a sponsor of the Schoharie Valley Concert Band. Survivors include: a daughter, Donna A. (William Sr.) McGovern; three sons, Paul (Darlene), Gordon (Billie), and Douglas (Gina); grandchildren, William Jr. (Christine), Donna M., Steven (Tara), Shawn (Carol) McGovern, Kathleen (Michael) Ellis, Courtney, William, David, Daniel, Rachel, Nicholas, and Jessica Angle; step-grandchildren, Austin and Ashlyn Siers; nine great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Mil Haskins; and nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brothers, Donald, John, and Ralph, her nephew, Alan, and her niece, Julie. In accordance with Margaret's wishes, she has donated her body to the anatomical gift program at Albany Medical College. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 15 at the Zion Evangelical Church, 615 Main Street, Cobleskill. Donations may be made in her memory to Cobleskill Fire Department, 610 Main Street, Cobleskill, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church or Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 795 West Main St. Suite 11, Cobleskill.
