I knew Art at Milne School from junior high through high school. He was one of the kindest people I have ever met.
It was my blessing to know him. My sympathy to his family.

Art was one of my early "encourages" when I came to Troy Annual Conference. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. He was a sweet, gentle man who took the time to lift spirits of those around him. With Sympathy, Anne Bachmann

Dear Sharon,
We were saddened by the news of Arthur's death. Always appreciated Art's contributions at the former Troy Annual Conferences. We were recently talking about Art and wondering how he was, because Marie just lost her brother last week who lived most of his life with MS.We hold you and the family in our thoughts and prayers.

In 1961, as a teenager, I attended a week-long event for youth that was offered by Troy Annual Conference and held at Norwich University. There was a chapel service each morning at which a young pastor was the preacher. That preacher was Art Melius. He spoke to my heart and spirit in such a way that, when I answered the call to ministry, Art was one of the models I looked to for guidance along the way. His gracious spirit was a blessing to me as a youth and as a young pastor myself. His family is in my heart and prayers in their grief and in their thankfulness for his life among us.

God richly blessed the United Methodist Church with Art's ministry. Thank you to all his family for supporting him with their love and their time through the years. Prayers for all of you during these days of farewell and goodbyes.

In 1973, Dave and I , Dan and Heidi , pets and all our "stuff" arrived in Niskayuna, thanks to GE. It didn't take us very long to find a church home at First Methodtst. We were welcomed by the Melius family and many others. We have fond memories of those days.
One memory I would like to share , is a childrens' sermon Art preached one Christmas. It was about gifts. He had a wrapped gift wiith paper strings.sticking out all over it. Kids were asked to pull one off and read it. They read things like,"open this if you were good"! Always some qualifying statement. Of course the message was that God gave us his son, the greatest gift, no strings attached. I remember this often as a guideline.
We would like to tell his family we are very sorry for their loss.

I picture a young Arthur, about age seven, enveloped in the robes of my Father as members of the congregation left Calvary Methodist church in Albany, New York, after service, shaking hands. After my Father would shake a hand the small hand of Arthur would reach out of the gown and he would shake the hand of the congregant too. He did this every Sunday for as long as I can remember during our time at Calvary. He wanted to be in the ministry. He wanted to serve, and he did. He was my childhood friend and I shall never forget him or his family.

My heart overflows with sorrow. I so many times thought of him. He was a wonderful Minister and a wonderful human being who is now at our Father's side. He married my husband and myself and baptized our three children. We were so fortunate to have him in our live. Rest In Peace

Rev. Melius was Senior Pastor at FUMC, Schenectady when my Dad, Mel McGaughey became Associate Pastor there. I have fond memories of those very happy years in our family life. I am now a pastor after all these years and have returned to the Capital District. Fond memories return when thinking of those days. God bless all his family during this time of loss. Rev. Melius will be missed.

I remember how kind Arthur was when I joined First United Methodist Church. He was so supportive as I had been raised in a different denomination. I really enjoyed his preaching; it was so meaningful and relevant.

I have such fond memories of Rev. Melius when he was in Hudson Falls. I made my confirmation under his loving instruction and babysat for the children. He was very instrumental in my early faith development. Loe to all his family at this time.

Rev. Melius will always be remembered by us as he married us 49 years ago. He was a young minister a that time full of God's grace. The marriage advice he gave us is still remembered today. May God be with you during this time.
