BARRY SUGDEN Obituary

ST. CHARLES - Barry K. Sugden, Jr., 71, passed away on April 21, 2014. He was born in Monterey CA, and grew up in the Cleveland/Akron area of Ohio. Barry attended Buchtel High School in Akron and went on to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He was an All American in Track and Field, an alternate for the 1964 U.S. Olympic team in the 800 meters, and a member of the Ohio University Athletics Hall of Fame. Barry graduated from college in 1965, served in the U.S. Army, then worked for a brokerage firm in New York before resuming his education. After earning his MBA at Harvard Business School in 1971 he moved to the Chicago area. In the 1980s he and his wife Noreen (Loubsky) moved to Southern California where they spent 20 years before returning to Illinois. His career included positions as CFO for several manufacturing companies, and, in later years, serving as a consultant for many start-up companies. He continued his love for running over the years and won medals in the Illinois Senior Olympics. Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia (Stavely) Sugden and Barry K. Sugden, Sr., brother James Sugden and son-in Law, Ross Cathey. He is survived by his wife, Noreen of St. Charles IL; daughter Tracy Cathey and grandson, Evan Cathey of Diamond Bar CA, son Andrew (Missi) Sugden of Grand Rapids MI, sisters Nancy Sugden (Bob Newbery) of Madison WI and Carol (Steve) Milligan of Stow MA and many nieces and nephews. Barry remained close with high school friends, coaches and team members from the track and field community of the 1960s. He cherished the good fellowship of Noreen's family (sister) Joan (Dave) Joseph and (brother) John (Kathy) Loubsky) in the Chicago area as well as continued friendship with his first wife, Lois (Elwell), and her extended family. Barry occupied center stage at any gathering of family and friends, and his presence in many lives will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2nd at Christ Community Church, 37W100 Bolcum Road, St. Charles, IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your favorite charity, or to the family for Evan's college fund.

Barry was a good friend , we car pooled and took the train downtown, 70-74, from Barrington Square, in Hoffman Estates. Barry was at the First Chicago Bank then? Why do we lose touch with friends? Tracy, remember the circus 1975 or 76?
