Sam was one of the greatest. I loved walking into your family room from the garage and seeing him in his recliner. He always welcomed me, and later my daughter, to your home with a warm smile and always had words of encouragement. I am sorry for your loss and I wish peace for everyone in the family. Cherish your memories of this wonderful man.

Sam was a treasure of a human being. All who met him felt his instant warmth. I first met him at ISTSB (yes, I AM that old) in 1966 when I was volunteering from NIU. I treasured working with him at the Illinois Youth Commission and IDOC. It has been a few years since I saw him at an ACA meeting. His warmth still exuded from him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed Rest in Peace.

A truly wonderful man has joined the best, the leaders, the heart and soul, of the men and women who pioneered corrections in Illinois. What a party, what a blessing he and they are to each angel that greeted him. He will be missed, but his memory, smile, and laugh will always be in our hearts.

Mrs. Sublett and family, you have our deepest sympathy in the passing of the legendary Samuel Sublett Jr. We have lost a true legend and great man. Mr. Sublett was my role model and had it not been for his leadership and compassion for people my 32 year career in the Illinois Department of Corrections would not have been, he was the trail blazer for all the African American men who achieved in the Department. We will be praying for you and the family and we will be unable to attend the services however we will be there with you in spirit. May God continue to be with you.

So sorry to hear of Sam's passing, but how wonderful that he was not in pain and that he died peacefully surrounded by family in his own home. Sam was a wonderful man who contributed more than most of us to his community and family. He will be dearly missed by so many. Am always here if you need to talk. Hope to see you here in Asheville, or up north when we head back home in April or May. Take care, keep warm, and stay well. .......love and hugs, Mery & Dan
