ANA L. LEWIS(1959 - 2013)

Ana L. Lewis, 53, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at her home in Grayslake, surrounded by family members. She was born on December 5, 1959 in South Bend, Indiana and was a graduate of Bergan High School in Peoria, IL. Ana studied at the University of Illinois where she met her future husband, Kevin, and earned a Bachelor Degree in Advertising in 1982. She then attended Northwestern University, where she earned a Master Degree in Advertising in 1983 and then worked at DMB&B - Chicago in advertising and market research for several years. Ana then became a devoted mother, focusing her passion for education and music on her children. She was their biggest champion and took pride in their accomplishments, large and small. She developed a passion for teaching while teaching religious education at St. Mary of the Annunciation and returned to school at SIU - University Center in Lake County to further her own education where she earned an Elementary Education Degree in 2008. She then taught at Elementary North and South, part of Hawthorn School District in Vernon Hills where she was able to impact the lives of many children and fellow teachers. During the 5 year battle with her illness, Ana was determined to continue to enjoy life. Her outlook and spirit during this time was inspirational to many. Her friends from the Hawthorn School "Sunshine Club" coined a new phrase WWAD - "What Would Ana Do*" as she always had a positive outlook and applied that to everything she did. She is survived by her husband, Kevin Lewis of Grayslake; three children, Michelle (Lewis) Boren, Kyle Lewis, and Emma Lewis; her mother Maria (Lewin) Gurdian; and six siblings Maria (Gurdian) McCrea, Al Gurdian Jr., Tony Gurdian, Rob Gurdian, Cindy (Gurdian) Mense, and Eric Gurdian.
