B. Jane Unger of Elgin B. Jane Unger, 78, was born April 24, 1934, in Camden Township, Schuyler County, Ill., the daughter of Julian and Irma (nee Feld) Unger. She died after a short battle with cancer. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Una Jean Claus. Survivors include her brother, J. Orson (Linda) Unger; four nieces; a nephew; and her longtime friend and partner, Susan McIntyre. She is also survived by countless loving friends. Jane graduated from Astoria High School, Quincy Beauty Academy and the School of Advanced Cosmetoloty at Southern Illinois University. Jane was a well-known and respected businesswoman in two different fields. She was president, owner and operator of Le Femme Coiffure, and she was a successful realtor for several local companies, including Windsor and Starck. She was a member and officer of the Elgin Hairdressers' Association, a board member of the Illinois Hairdressers and Cosmetologists' Association and was elected president of the Illinois Hairdressers. Jane was a member of the the Elgin Area Board of Realtors. Jane was a 59-year member of the Elgin YWCA and served as a board member. She was a 47-year member of the Elgin Golferettes golf league and served several times as president of her condo association. She was also a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Community Crisis Center, YWCA, Elgin, or Wesley United Methodist Church, Elgin.
