BEVERLY P. DILLON(1929 - 2014)

DUNDEE - Beverly P. Dillon, age 84, died peacefully January 30, 2014 at the Pepper Family Hospice Center, Barrington IL, of natural causes. Her son John Wesley Dillon was at her side. Born August 28, 1929 in Chattanooga TN, she was the youngest of four daughters of John Roy and Inez (nee McNeal) Patton. Bev's family moved to Nashville, TN during her fourth grade year. There she attended East high school and later Vanderbilt University where she received degrees in Math and Psychology. On September 2, 1952 she married her college sweetheart "Teddy" who would take them to Winnipeg, Canada where Ted was the first Manitoba Provincial Wildlife Biologist for Ducks Unlimited, and Wesley was born. Fate would bring them to Dundee, IL in 1966 where they were both employed by the Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation, she as an Accountant, he as a Research Biologist, enjoying long careers until their retirement in the 1990s. As a long time resident of the Dundee area, Bev was very active in the community. A faithful member of the First Congregational Church of Dundee, UCC, where she served as a Deaconess, in Women's Fellowship, and was a founding member of the "Bells of Dundee" hand bell choir where she remained active until death. Bev was also active in the Church's Home and Hospital Visitation Ministry. She was a former member of the Dundee Women's Club, member of the J.G. Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, where she recently earned her 50 year pin. Bev was also active in the Every Wednesday Literary Club and Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. One remembers Beverly as a dedicated wife, mother, and friend, who gave her time and energy willingly, always rising to the occasion when called upon. She is is survived by son John Wesley (Trisha) and granddaughter Kelsey Ann of Oakland, ME. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Smith Tenison "Ted" Dillon of 56 years, Sisters Dorothy Brammer, Inez Austin, Ruth Patton, Nephew David Brammer, and her parents. Relatives include Sister-in-law Ellen W. Dillon (William W. Dillon, III), Niece Emmie Dillon (James) Thomas, Nephew William W. Dillon Jr. of Nashville, TN. Nephews Shelby (Toni) Brammer of Seattle WA, John (Becky) Brammer of Chattanooga TN, Hilton (Patti) Austin Jr. of Lilburn GA. Announcements will be made for a Celebration of Life service to be held in the spring of 2014 at the First Congregational Church of Dundee UCC, Rev Aaron James officiating. Memorials are encouraged to be made to the First Congregational Church of Dundee UCC, in lieu of flowers.
