CHARLES A. BASHAW(1922 - 2014)

BATAVIA/ GENEVA - Charles A. Bashaw, age 92, of Batavia, a former longtime resident of Geneva, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva surrounded by his family. He was born February 16, 1922 in Ludington, Michigan, son of Jacob and Irene (Laurain) Bashaw. Charles proudly served his country during World War II in the Navy until 1946. He then received his Bachelor's degree in teaching from Central Michigan and his Master's degree from Michigan State. He began his teaching career in Michigan and eventually moved and accepted a position with the Geneva School district where he was a devoted teacher and coach from 1955 until his retirement in 1984. He coached lightweight football for 27 years and served as an announcer and timekeeper for 35 years for Geneva basketball and football games. Charles even spent his summers surrounded by kids, working at the Geneva Pool for 24 years. In his retirement years he also worked at Frank's Finer Foods in Geneva. Charles is blessed with a loving family; sons Bruce (Christine) Bashaw of Batavia, Dave of Aurora, Tom of Wisconsin, and Don (Shana) of Naperville; grandchildren Ryan, Michael, Jake, Lizzy, and Nikki Bashaw; sisters Doris Preiss and Phyliss Jonassen. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; sister Eldean Jankowski; daughter Barbara in 1989; and his wife Jean in 1999. Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11:00 am at United Methodist Church of Geneva, 211 Hamilton Street, Geneva with Reverend Robert Hamilton III officiating. Following the service, full military honors will be presented. Burial will be held privately at Garfield Cemetery in Campton Township. Visitation will be held Friday, April 18 from 4 - 8 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St. (Route 38), Geneva.
