David Mills Jr. David Mills Jr., age 84, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013. David was born on Oct. 13, 1928, in Oak Park. He grew up in Chicago and graduated from Austin High School in 1946. After high school David enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard
. He became a firefighter
for the Village of Arlington Heights in 1957 where he was employed for 32 years. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1964, Captain in 1969 and Deputy Chief in 1975 and retired September 15, 1989 as Deputy Chief. After retirement, David worked as a volunteer for the Arlington Heights School District as a tutor in their Read to Learn program for many years, as well as a volunteer at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library in the Genealogy Department. Surviving are his wife, Joyce; son, David (Cindy) Mills; daughter, Janet Paulson and her companion Noah Sartwell; daughter, Joyce (Jeff) Veis; his sister, Myrta (Clarence) Kallback; three grandchildren, Scott (Nicole) Mills, Derek Mills and Marissa Veis; great-grandchild, Olivia Mills; sister-in-law, Josie Margis; beloved nephews and niece, Eric (Debbie) Kallback, Paul (Debbie) Margis, Sheri (Tom) Cocoo and John Margis. He was the stepfather of Lynn (Carl) Pepper, Lee Ann (Tom) Carpenter and Cindy (Brett) Howard; stepgrandfather of nine; and great-stepgrandfather of seven. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Genevieve; and his parents, David and Daisy Mills. Visitation Thursday, 3 to 8 p.m. at Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Road (½ block east of Route 53), Rolling Meadows, where services will be held Friday, at 10:30 a.m. Interment Windridge Cemetery, Cary, IL.
