Doris Miceli of Lake Forest Doris Miceli, 93, passed peacefully from this life at home on February 16, 2013. She was born in Stafford County, Va., on November 30, 1919, to Annie and Joseph Perks. On July 22, 1939, she married her husband, Joseph, in Quantico, Va. They lived and traveled throughout the world while he served for 22 years in the Navy, retiring from military service at Great Lakes. She and her husband enjoyed spending the winter months with their many friends in Pompano Beach, Florida. She was a longtime resident of North Chicago and was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in North Chicago and later Grace United Methodist Church in Lake Bluff. She was a uniquely talented poet, pianist and painter. Doris penned "The Leatherneck" in 1943, to commemorate the United States Marine Corps
. She gave of herself freely by volunteering for numerous activities, including Cub Scouts, teaching Sunday School and various school associations while her children were in local schools. She is survived by a large extended family, including her three children, Steve (Martha) of Lake Forest, Michael of North Chicago and Ann (Wes) Trombino of Lake Forest; five grandchildren, Steven Miceli, John Miceli, Christine Miceli, Megan Trombino Pruitt (Brian) and Michael Trombino; two great-grandchildren, Everett Miceli and Grayson Miceli; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Joseph in 2000, her brothers Herman Perks and Kenneth Perks, and one sister, Louise Wickham, all from the Richmond, Virginia area. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 19, at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan. Interment will be private in Fort Sheridan Cemetery.
