EVELYNN Z. BERGEN

Evelynn Z. Bergen formerly of Glen Ellyn for 51 years On Friday, April 26, 2013, Evelynn Z. Bergen of Washington, DC passed away peacefully. Born in Canton, OH in 1920, she was the second of four children. A 1942 graduate of St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN, she was a lifelong Notre Dame fan. Also a graduate of the Julliard School of Music in New York City, she was a piano major and professor until she married in 1946. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Bergen, of 47 years. She is survived by her only daughter, Kathleen Bergen, her son in law, Alexander Bastos, her grandchildren, Laura, John, Michael, and David Bastos, three great grandchildren, other loving relatives, and many friends. She was a member of Glen Oak Country Club, where she was an avid golfer and one-time club champion. She was also known as a gourmet cook and generous hostess who loved music, bridge and gardening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Petronille's Church, 420 Glenwood, Glen Ellyn, on Saturday, May 4 at 10:30 AM with a viewing beginning at the Church at 9:30 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in her name to St. Mary's College, www.saintmarys.edu.
