Harold William "Bill" Grube of Gurnee Harold William "Bill" Grube, 88, passed away on Dec. 17, 2012, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Born on June 27, 1924, in Waukegan, he remained a Gurnee resident for most of his life. Bill served in the US Army during World War II
and graduated from Purdue University
in 1948. He was a registered professional engineer and had been employed at American Steel & Wire Co. for five years. He retired from Outboard Marine Corp. in 1989, after 36 years of employment. He was a member of Gurnee Community Church, where he served on a committee to design, plan and build a new church building under the leadership of Pastor Lloyd J. Ogilvie, and also designed his home in Gurnee. He participated in several social groups within the church where one of his last activities was changing the church sign, which he did for 14 years after his retirement from OMC. He was a member of the Gurnee Grade School Board, Society of Automotive Engineers, Swedish Glee Club, Flambeau Flockers (a canoe club), Buoys and Belles square dance club, Skitrax Ski Club, Waukegan Moose Lodge #706, Adler Cultural Center, A.A.R.P., Lake Forest Seniors, Warren Township Seniors, Go-Aires Travel Club, Boy Scout Troop 77 committee chairman from 1963 to 1975 and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and P.A.D.S. Bill loved to ski, camp, do photography and canoe. He married Marjorie Jacobson on April 28, 1951. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; three sons, Thomas, Gary (Kathy) and Warren (Giovanna) Grube; one daughter, Gale (Paul) Merz; one granddaughter, Michelle Grube; one sister, Margaret (Don) Owen; and brother, Jim (Joyce) Grube. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Margaret Grube; one son, Richard and; one brother, Bob. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gurnee Community Church, 4555 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at the church. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Interment will follow at Warren Cemetery in Gurnee. Donations may be made in his memory to Gurnee Community Church.
