Irene May Dougherty of McHenry Irene May Dougherty, 85, passed away on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at home with her family by her side. She was born on Sept. 28, 1927, in Chicago, IL to Harry (born Joseph Mullarey) and Maybelle (nee Ham) Perry. On Sept. 11, 1948, she married Richard Dougherty in Chicago, IL. All who knew Irene will remember her cheerful, optimistic outlook on life. Well into her 70s, Irene sold real estate for over 30 years, most recently at Stark & Co. of Arlington Heights. She loved baking, reading, gardening and spending summers with her family at her cottage in Coleman, Wis. The inseparable, loving bond she shared with her identical twin, Florence Wagner, will be remembered by all who knew them, and her 53-year marriage to Richard is a true love story. Irene's sense of humor, empathy and gentle kindness will be a source of inspiration and a valuable life lesson to all her were blessed with knowing her. Her adoring grandchildren, children and their spouses all know she loved them equally, unequivocally and forever. Survivors include her children, Debra Dougherty Toebe of McHenry, Paul (Mary) Dougherty of McHenry and Heather (Leonard) Herriges of McHenry; her nine grandchildren, Kaitlin and Emma Dougherty, Anthony (Kari) Devivo, Lacey and Nicholas Devivo, and Mathias, Hannah, Samantha and Nathan Herriges; and one great-grandson, Anthony Devivo Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Dougherty in December 2001; twin sister, Florence (Richard) Wagner; and brothers, Harry Perry and Donald (Martha) Perry. A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon on Saturday, Oct. 27, at First United Methodist Church, 3717 W. Main St., McHenry, IL.
