James E. Newsom of Carol Stream for 35 years James E. Newsom, 80, was born Oct. 21, 1932, in Dehue, WV, and passed away Aug. 19, 2013, at the Johnson Medical Center, Windsor Park Manor. James was a 20-year military veteran. He was in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He finished his military career in the U.S. Air Force serving in the Vietnam War and Search and Rescue while stationed in California. After retirement from the military, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier for 17 years retiring in 1989. Before his illness, he enjoyed walking 10 miles a day and traveling. He is survived by his son, Daniel Scott Newsom; granddaughter, Abigail Newsom; sisters, Eva (Jim) Adkins and Sandra (John) Lester Holman; special friend, Arlene Unzeitis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Interment in Highland Memory Gardens, with a memorial at a later date.
