JEAN E. and RICHARD "DICK" TILLINGHAST

Jean E. and Richard W. "Dick" Tillinghast formerly of Mount Prospect Jean E. (nee Smith), age 85, of Walnut, IL passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Four days later on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, her devoted husband, Richard "Dick" Tillinghast, age 89, of Walnut, IL, passed away also surrounded by his loving family. Jean was born March 28, 1927 in Sublette, IL to Howard and Elizabeth (Kasbeer) Smith. Dick was born November 9, 1923 in Indianapolis, IN to Walter and Verna (Jones) Tillinghast. Dick and Jean met in college and were married on December 30, 1947. As a young married couple, they started their life together in Walnut. As Dick's career progressed, they moved several times ending up in Mt. Prospect in 1957 where they raised their four children. While in Mt Prospect, Jean continued her school teaching career as well as teaching piano to many students. She continued teaching piano just prior to her passing. Following Dick's retirement from Allstate Insurance Company, Northbrook, IL, they moved back to Jean's childhood home in Walnut. In retirement they continued their lifelong passion for music by starting 'Musically Yours', an antique music business. Dick and Jean are survived by their children Marc Tillinghast of Bountiful, UT, Brian (Theresa) Tillinghast of Algonquin, IL, Diane (Wally) Treu of Long Grove, IL, and Charles Tillinghast of Walnut, IL; four grandchildren, Sarah (Jay) Oliva, Lauren Treu, Kelli Ann and John Tillinghast; one great-grandson, Dominic Oliva and numerous cousins and friends. They were preceded in death by their infant daughter, Robin Sue, their parents, Dick's sister and stepbrother. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, February 23 at the Garland Funeral Home, Walnut, IL. Interment took place at the Walnut Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Walnut United Methodist Church, Walnut Public Library, or Walnut Manor Nursing Home - all located in Walnut, IL 61376.
