PHILIP N. CRUSIUS(1957 - 2014)

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - Philip N. Crusius, 57, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, surrounded by family, after battling pancreatic cancer since August. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1903 E. Euclid, Arlington Heights; a reception follows. Phil was born January 2, 1957 in Frankfurt, Germany while his father worked for the U.S. Army there. After a few years in Baltimore, Phil started school in Greenville, PA, moving to Urbana, IL at age 11, and graduating Urbana High School (1974). After graduating University of Illinois (1978) in Computer Science, Phil worked briefly in Roseville, MN, and Chicago before settling in Arlington Heights in 1982, doing consulting work as a Software Engineer with Analysts International Corporation for 9 years, followed by consulting in his own business (CustomSoft Solutions), most recently at Tekno Telecom, LLC. He also wrote a program used by dairy delivery businesses. Phil was a member of First United Methodist Church of Arlington Heights, where he met his dear wife Patty. He was a delegate to Annual Conference, served on several commissions (Worship, Youth, and Stewardship), volunteered for PADS, sang in Choir, was a preschool reader and an assistant scoutmaster for his son's Boy Scout Troop 132. Phil also served the larger Community, first as an anti-gambling advocate, and later as an elected Member of District 25 School Board since 2009. Phil volunteered in his children's schools, even after they aged out, including editing PTA newsletter The Westgate Wire 2 years, coaching students in events for Science Olympiad and sound crews for the dramatic productions at South Middle School, 6 years. He was passionate about giving opportunities to all students, whether gifted or with special needs, and promoting open communication between the District and the community. Phil's survivors: beloved wife Patricia (nee Palmatier), loving daughter Christina (20), devoted son Daniel Richard Crusius (18), cherished mother Vera Claussen Crusius Wachter (95), dear brother Paul (59), Aunt Ruth Claussen Muir (91) of California and sister-in-law Victoria Griffiths Hoban Crusius. Preceding him in death: father Daniel Rudolph Crusius, brother Carl (2005), Aunts and Uncles Cordelia (Helmuth) Wegner, Martin (Evelyn) Claussen, Walter (Genevieve) Claussen, and Logan Muir and stepfather Harry Ewing Wachter. Phil was a dear brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, friend and cousin to many beloved extended family members of the Claussen, Crusius, Palmatier and Wachter clans, enjoying numerous family reunions over the years.
