REGINALD GAETZ(1918 - 2013)

Reginald Gaetz, age 95, died September 25, 2013. Reg was born June 24, 1918 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia to Lottie and William Gaetz. After completing high school, he moved to Toronto to attend Radio College of Canada, and took a job there in the radio industry. In 1941, Reg married Johanna Louise Pousho, his brother's sister-in-law. Shortly thereafter, he volunteered with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was stationed in England where he served as a radar technician during WWII. Reg took pride in his defense role during the Battle of Britain. Upon his discharge in 1946, he joined Dun & Bradstreet as a credit reporter, and eventually became Regional Reporting Manager for Canada. He retired after 40 years of working for D&B in Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Toronto, and finally Mount Prospect. Reg's many interests included gardening, sailing, woodworking, golfing, reading, socializing, and just puttering about. He self published 'Growing Up in Lunenburg County Nova Scotia', a book about his life as a youth in a small town during the 20's and 30's. Reg and Johanna loved to travel, and had many overseas vacations. One of the most memorable involved sailing to England on the Queen Elizabeth 2, a seven day voyage, and flying back in 3 hours on the Concorde. Reg was a very loving and involved father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family. Survivors include his children, Gregory (Lyn) Gaetz of Toronto, Carole (Tom) Hunter of Rockford, Michael (Eva) Gaetz of Wheaton, eight grandchildren, Susanne Abedin, Noah & Emily Gaetz, Josh, Damien, & Chelsea Hunter, and Shannon, & Justin Gaetz, and nine great grandchildren. Reg was preceded in death by Johanna, his wife of 67 years, his parents, and his 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Reg's life will be celebrated October 19 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 200 S. Wille St., Mount Prospect. Visitation will be at 12:30 pm, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm.
