Shirley Elizabeth Arthon Heaven received another angel Shirley Elizabeth (Harkonen) Arthon passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, with family at her side and a smile on her face. Shirley was born in upper Michigan on Jan. 9, 1936, the daughter of Reno and Impi (Thauriainen) Harkonen. She married Gerard Arthon on June 21, 1955, in Chicago where they met. Shirley will be best remembered for her huge heart, open household, her oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip cookies and her love of animals. Shirley Is survived by her children, Mike (Paula) Arthon, Pat (Patty) Arthon and Sue (Chuck) Elliott; her sisters, Roberta (Jack) Korhonen and Janet (Gus) Therrian; a sister-in-law, Maryanne Harkonen; the other grandma, Dorothy Wilkosz; her grandchildren, Lauren, Katie (Ridge), Samantha and Megan; her two great-grandchildren; her extended family. Sean, Jill, Tom, Michelle Ryan; many nieces, nephews and friends; and her extended family at Cottage Care Center. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Gerard; daughter, Mickey; brother, Ron; cousin, LaVern; her parents; grandparents; and very special Aunt Elsie Harkonen. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local animal shelter or Food Pantry.
