Shirley Van Driel

Shirley Van Driel Shirley M. (Forster) Van Driel, age 78, of Baraboo passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at her home. Shirley was born on March 5, 1935 to Louis and Clara (Snyder) Forster in Canton, MN. She was united in marriage to Herbert J. Van Driel on September 17, 1955 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Edina, MN. Shirley met Herb while they were students at Marquette University, and they were married within one year. By the ages of 27 and 29 they were the proud parents of six children (born within seven years, and all single births). They were married for 57 years. Shirley was the daughter-in-law of Herbert and Helen Van Driel, owners of Van Driel's Drug Store in Mt. Prospect from 1943-1970. Shirley held a variety of jobs during her life, but her greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with her friends; bowling, golfing, and playing bridge. She was an avid reader and an accomplished knitter, quilter, and cross-stitcher. Shirley was a kind and gentle soul and will be profoundly missed. Shirley is survived by her husband, Herb; six children, Kathy (Ray) Nee of Pardeeville, Laurie (Jim) Stoffel of St. Charles, IL, Lisa Dean of Chippewa Falls, Mary Tenamore of North Freedom, Brian (Susan) Van Driel of Sun Prairie, and Sue (Harry) Arnold of McHenry, IL; 18 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Anne Ripple. She is further survived by 6 nieces and 1 nephew; as well as many other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Larry Tenamore; brother-in-law, Donald T. Ripple; and three grandchildren at birth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Baraboo with Father Jay Poster officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Friday, June 28, 2013, at the church. Private Burial will follow the service in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Baraboo. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Baraboo or Home Health United Hospice, 1111 8th St., Baraboo, WI 53913.
