WILLIAM H. "BILL" POERSTEL

William H. "Bill" Poerstel formerly of Hoffman Estates William H. "Bill" Poerstel, 84, of Prophetstown, Ill., died Friday, March 29 at his home. Mr. Poerstel was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Latrobe, Penn., the son of William T. and Mary Kathryn (McKay) Poerstel. He married Joan Peters on Oct. 19, 1957, in Cicero. An employee in the aircraft maintenance department for United Airlines for more than 36 years, Mr. Poerstel received an award from the company in 1963 for helping to develop a de-icing/anti-icing system which was eventually used by 11 airlines. He retired from United in 1988. He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Prophetstown and served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-49. A past president of the Holy Name Society, Mr. Poerstel belonged to Toastmasters and enjoyed home projects and repairs. Survivors include his wife, Joan; five children, Mary (John) Sherrick of Mason City, Iowa, William T. "Bill" (Michelle) of Overland Park, Kan., Patricia (Kevin) Beese of Glen Ellyn, Nancy Kyle of Madison, Ala. and Julie (Lorenzo) Hall of Riverside, Calif;, two sisters, Anne DeCourcy of Rockville, Md. and Clare (Don) Weaver of Pittsburgh; three brothers, Thomas of Lansdowne, Va., Robert (Patricia) of Sharon, Penn., and John (Mary) of Midlothian, Va.; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mary Margaret Cavanaugh, Kathryn Campbell and Jeanne Gerthoffer. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 1, with a rosary starting at 4:30 p.m., at McDonald Funeral Home in Prophetstown. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2 at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Prophetstown, with the Rev. Francis Wawyczyck officiating.
