William J. Serna William J. Serna, 77 passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 7, 2012. He was born to the late John and Frances Serna on May 25, 1935, in Chicago, IL, and was the brother to John (Mary). William was a veteran in the Korean War and a proud member of Local 150 Operating Engineers for 60 years. Surviving are his wife, Joan, who he was married to for 55 years. He was the loving father of four children, Matthew (Nancy), Colleen O'Dell (Tim), Susan Hood (Eric) and John (Wendi); loving grandfather of six, whom he adored, Matthew Jr., Kevin, Macy, Zachary, Alexis and Sarah; and he also leaves his beloved adopted dog, Abby. He was a man who loved God, and loved his family and friends who will miss his numerous conversations, sense of humor and helpful heart. He played key leadership roles in the 49ers softball team, Devon Higgins baseball, St. Stephen's Church and School, and Spruce St. Men's Club. Visitation will be Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Road (at Northwest Highway), Mount Prospect, with a Mass held on Monday, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1267 Everett Ave., Des Plaines, IL.
