Sometimes it takes a while to know how to respond to things sent to me and it took quite a while to come up with this. Sherry, if you are still with us, Terry and I were Fraternity Brothers in Phi Kappa Tau. When I was released from the Army Security Agency, the Army Branch of NSA, the National Security Agency, I got a 5-month Early Out because I had been in Korea, still considered a War Zone even now, my flight from Washington State had a layover in Chicago and I heard Terry's name on the audio so I asked at the gate where he was so I could seem. They told me where his office was so I walked to it and lo and Behold, he was on the phone with Brizz, and I got to say hello to him as well. When the plane was ready to depart he walked me onto the plane and put me in First Class and told the Flight Attendant to give my a split of Champagne. It was the best way to come home, First Class with a split of Champagne. I'll never forget that. He was such a natural leader that when a ship that he was on off the coast of Vietnam had to take over command because the Captain had a Mental Breakdown, Terry, who may have been just a Lt JG or possibly a full Lt led it when very likely there were other officers on board with a higher rank than Terry. That is the kind of natural Leader that he was. Buzz Bruggeman was the one who told me about this and one of my Tri-Care Patients who was a retired Naval Officer that worked in the Pentagon, knew about it and confirmed the incident. Relieving the Captain of a ship at Sea in a War Zone is extremely rare. Terry was one of the Leaders who got it done.

Hi Sherri,
You don't know me, but I was a shipmate and roomate of Terry's in Norfolk in 1968-9. He was a great guy, but kept wrecking his corvettes! We had some memorable times in those years. He and I drove back to Chicago in 1969 when he got out of the Navy and I was on my way to VN. We arrived on the day of the Washington Park riot and drove through the aftermath. I lost touch with him after he moved back to Chicago from the LA area and regret not staying in touch even more now that he is gone. The "Wine Doctor" lived life to the absolute fullest and we are all diminished by his passing. I send my deepest personal regrets over your loss.

Terry was one of a kind! He was always laughing and was a great football player at Coe where I was in the fraturnity with him.
I'll never forget his Pontiac convertable...in fact I was with him when the top of it ripped off and was thrown in the ditch as we were going about 50 mph!
Missed him at the Phi Tau reunion with Brizz and all.
I will always have fond memories of him.
My sympathies to all.

Sherri,
I am so sorry for your loss. I often think of Terry as I travel through airports and frequently tell
"Terry Stories" to young people interested in the airline business.
I was consistantly amazed by his intelligence, insight and tireless dedication to whatever project he worked on. His friends and family need only to walk through the O'Hare or Denver Airports to understand the size and complexity of the projects Terry worked on over his career at United. Much of what works well at those airports is entirely the result of Terry's tireless commitment to getting it right. In many ways those two buildings are on going monuments to his work and the kind of person he was.
I also remember a Hallowen party years ago when someone turned up dressed as Frankenstein. He never spoke a word and everyone at the party spent the entire evening trying to figure out who was under the long robes and green make up with a nail in his head. No one ever did. It wasn't until late in the night as we all headed home that Frankenstein fessed up to his "inner Terry". Best costume I have ever seen and absolutely typical of the the fun side of Terry.
Please know that our thoughts are with you and that our many memories of Terry will live on forever.

Sherri,
The minute I read of Terry's passing from Bob Brizzolara's email to Coe College my memory leaped back to the early 60's and the fun years I enjoyed playing football with Terry as the opposite offensive end that he played. I remember Terry as a dedicated jock and leader within his fraternity and campus...and his good looks made him very popular with the Coe girls. These are sad times for your family but it should be comforting to know Terry left those he met and interacted with feeling glad they got to know him. God Bless you.

Sherri, its a great picture of Terry in the Guest Book. He looks great and he was a great guy. He was a person who stood out in any crowd and attracted outstanding people to him. I like in his obituary where it says he was golf co-ordinatior at Countryside Golf Club and not Countryside Country Club. I am a public course kind of guy too.

Sherri, I had the the fun and fulfilling experiences of being with Terry in Florida, California and Denver. It was a real treat to live close-by you in the Northwest suburbs. Coe, football, economics, realestate, the airlines, golf, the military, etc., Terry was cognizant about many things and it was always fun to discuss life with him and do things together.
I am so sorry, he is gone and I empathise with your loss. However, it is wonderful to remember the great past. It is only because we were all so fortunate for so many years that we now have sorrow. So, ironically, we are blessed, way-ahead-of-the-game and I pray that you can try to understand this.

Sherri, Cheryl and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. The times that we got together seemed like yesterday. I remember when Terry and I went to the 20th anniversary of "The Wall" together in Washington D.C. and what a special time we had there. I know that he was respected by those who served with him on his swift boat during the Vietnam War. All of us in the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity will remember Terry's contributions as well as the good times we had. Those of us, like Bob Brizzolara and Dick DeWald, who played football with Terry, will also remember what a fine athlete he was. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Dan and Cheryl Guenther
