DOROTHY MARIE GREINER

1921 - 2013

DOWNERS GROVE - Dorothy Marie Greiner (nee Janssen), born January 9, 1921, was reunited with her husband on November 27, 2013. Daughter of Klass and Ida (Sommer) Janssen, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bob Janssen, husband Ed, and eldest son David. Surviving relatives include sons: Joel (Jacquie), Dan (Susan), Mark (Laurie), and John (Laura); grandchildren: Paula (Brian Shotton), Paul, Chris, David, and Jenna; great grandchild: Timothy. After graduating from Bradley Polytechnic Institute of Peoria, IL (now Bradley University), Dorothy taught at the Bradford High School, Bradford, IL. She married Edward Greiner on July 31, 1943 in Peoria, IL, while he served in the Navy. Through their married life, they lived in Washington, IL; Pittsburgh, PA; Cedar Rapids, IA; and Hinsdale, IL. After Ed's death in 1987, Dorothy moved in 1992 to Fairview Village (now Oak Trace), a caring senior living community, in Downers Grove, IL. Along with being a fulltime homemaker, Dorothy found time to be active in all the communities in which spent her adult life. Always involved in her church - last 50 years at Redeemer Lutheran in Hinsdale, IL. She was a lifetime member of the PEO Sisterhood, delivered Meals on Wheels, was active in Compassionate Friends, enjoyed tennis, was a sometimes knitter and quilter who loved to travel with her husband and later with friends. Dorothy supported numerous charities and social causes, and most importantly was a loving wife and mother.
