A. James "Jim" Gallagher Jr. a 55-year resident of Palatine A. James "Jim" Gallagher Jr., 91, was the beloved husband of Marie (nee Migge); devoted father of Linda Daly, Jay (Ann), Kevin (Molly) and Terry (Colleen) Gallagher and Colleen (Bart) Lockhart; loving grandfather of Caroline (Michael) Fief, John (Signe) Daly, Esther Marie Rose and Jessica Gallagher, Ryanne (Lucas) Johnson, Kara (Matt) Ulmer, Catherine, Melody, Morgan, Erin, Devin and Quinn Gallagher, and Kyle, Darren and Wyatt Lockhart; great-grandfather of Emma, David and Eric Barroso, and Jensen, Karl and Medea Daly; and dear brother of Katherine Carani, and the late John (the late Mary Claire) and Robert (the late Isabelle) Gallagher. Jim was born on July 9, 1921, in Chicago, and passed away on Jan. 4, 2013, at his home in Palatine, surrounded by his loving family. He was the past president and CEO of the Arthur James Gallagher & Company, Itasca and CEO of the Gallagher Western Corporation, Palatine. He was a Navy pilot during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of Operation. He was a deeply religious man and philanthropist who gave freely for Catholic Education. He loved art, music, good food, loved to entertain and was a wonderful host. A true renaissance man. He was an avid outdoorsman who was a fly fisherman and snow skier almost all of his life. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, 330 W. Golf Road, Schaumburg. Funeral prayers will be at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, proceeding to Church of the Holy Spirit, for a 10 a.m. Mass. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated for St. Martin de Porres High School, a Cristo Rey School, 501 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Waukegan, IL 60085. For information, 847-882-5580.
