Obituary Condolences

Adelaide P. "Addie" Jurs a resident of Wheaton Adelaide P. "Addie" Jurs, 71, formerly of Willowbrook and Clarendon Hills, died peacefully at home on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, after a 22-month battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 26, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA, to Harry and Adelaide Poole. Addie graduated from Glenbrook High School in Northbrook in 1959. She graduated from Northwestern University in 1963 and began teaching at Avoca Grade School in Wilmette. She met her future husband, Jerry Jurs, while at Northwestern. After reconnecting at a friend's wedding in 1965, they were married on Aug. 6, 1966. They lived in Evanston and then Clarendon Hills for over 30 years, where they raised three children. She was very active at Christ Church of Oak Brook for many years. For the last 15 years, she has been active at Church of the Resurrection in Wheaton. She loved her family and enjoyed nature and outdoor activities, among them skiing, hiking, and in recent years recumbent trike riding. She had a zest for life and was an avid reader with an active curiosity, enjoying lively conversation around stimulating ideas. She used her boundless energy, optimism and creativity in caring for others. Addie also authored a book about television and children and had an article published in Christianity Today. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Jurs; three children, Michael Jurs of CA, Stuart Jurs of Evanston and Doug (Claire) Jurs of GA; and one grandson, Silas. She was preceded in death by her parents. A visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 1, from 3 until 9 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection, 935 W. Union Ave., Wheaton, IL 60187. Interment will precede the service at 9 a.m. at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, IL. Memorial gifts may be directed to Church of the Resurrection at the address above or to Samaritan's Purse humanitarian relief efforts at P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.
