ALAN A. SEAGREN Obituary
WHEATON - Alan A. Seagren, 66, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Wynscape Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Wheaton, IL. He was born on June 2, 1947 in Chicago, IL to Arthur and Carolyn Seagren. Alan grew up in Bellwood, IL. He graduated from Proviso East High School in Maywood, IL in 1965. After high school, he attended college at Indiana Institute of Technology in Ft. Wayne, IN, where he received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He worked at Commonwealth Edison as an electrical engineer for 27 years and at Verizon Wireless as a data sales engineer for 11 years. Alan married Patricia McCullough in 1973 in Galesburg, IL. They were happily married for 40 years. Alan was an avid volunteer throughout his life and was dedicated to helping others. He lent his talents to many organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, PADS, Wheaton Jaycees, Wheaton Housing Commission, St. Paul Lutheran Church, and most recently, We Grow Dreams Greenhouse & Garden Center and STARS Family Services. He also enjoyed photography, hiking, antiques and collectables, gardening, reading and spending time with family. Alan was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wheaton, IL. Alan was a talented engineer and a perennial handyman with a great sense of humor and a wonderful smile. He always took life in stride and maintained a calm demeanor. He was a selfless and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to many. Alan is survived by his wife, Patricia Seagren, of Wheaton, IL; his two daughters, Stacy (Ryan) Schleeter, of Noblesville, IN and Ashley Seagren, of Wheaton, IL; his grandson, Benjamin Schleeter, of Noblesville, IN; his parents, Arthur and Carolyn Seagren, of Bellwood, IL; his brother, Gary Seagren, of Lisle, IL; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 515 S. Wheaton Ave., at 10:30 am on Friday, February 28, 2014. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations directed to STARS Family Services, P.O. Box 1388, Wheaton, IL 60187.
