Obituary Condolences

Arthur Edward Andersen III a longtime resident of Barrington Services for Arthur Edward Andersen III, 69, will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 647 Dundee Ave., Barrington. The Rev. Don P. Moon will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, at the Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington. Mr. Anderson died Monday, July 31, 2006, in his home in Barrington. He was born in the Chicago area and grew up on the family farm in the Cary countryside. He attended St. John's Military Academy in Milwaukee, Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pa., and Northwestern University in Evanston. Retired for a number of years, he was the treasurer of Arthur Andersen & Co., the international accounting, tax and consulting firm his grandfather founded in Chicago. Prior to joining Arthur Andersen, he was involved in the Chicago financial community, working for EF Hutton and with the Midwest Stock Exchange. In addition to being known and respected throughout the international financial and business community, Arthur was gracious philanthropist. Throughout his life, he was active in his local community and supportive of a number of institutions including, but not limited to: Alexian Brothers, Columbus Cuneo and Cabrini, Illinois Benedictine College, Mercersburg College, St. Norbert College, the Chicago Institute for Neurosurgery and Neurophysiology (CINN) and PHD. He was a friend and mentor to many and is survived by his wife, Joan (nee Raae), whom he married Dec. 27, 1974, in Barrington; his children, Kristen Andersen of Winnetka, Scott (Nancy) Wahl of San Diego, Arthur (Mary) Andersen VI of Hinsdale, Michael (Lisa) Wahl of Barrington, Kim (Joe) Holland of Barrington and Karen Porter of Kenilworth; and by his 14 grandchildren, William Pickering, Art V, Christopher, Nicholas, and Elizabeth Andersen, Alexander and Andrew Porter, Kelly, Kate, Andrew, Alyssa, and Moira Wahl, and Kirsten and Tyler Holland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur II and Marion (nee Condy); and his sister, Carol Louise Andersen. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Andersen's name may be made to the Alexian Brothers Foundation, 3040 Salt Creek Ln., Alrington Heights, IL 60005. For information, 847-381-3411.
