Obituary Condolences

Bernard "Barney" Thomas Dixon of Elk Grove Village Bernard "Barney" Thomas Dixon, 76, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013. He was born August 4, 1937 in Bronson, MI., to Benton and Anna Mae Dixon. He married Debbie DeTorrice on June 6, 1982. He was preceded in death by his Mother Anna Mae Dixon; Father Benton Dixon; and Brother Bill Dixon He is survived by his wife Debbie Dixon; brother Norman (Bonnie) Dixon; sons Dan (Dawn) Satchfield, Brent Dixon, Brian Dixon and Benny Dixon; daughters Lisa (Corey) Aviza, Marnee Burke, Lauren Dixon, Beth Dixon and Annie Dixon; grandchildren Jena (Rob) Thorp, Breck Burke, Lexis Burke, Sean Printke, Casey Satchfield and Chuck Satchfield; and great-grandchildren Emma, Ethan and Elliot Thorp. He is also survived by many brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews. Barney spent much of his life running businesses: he owned a billiard room, barber shop, catering service and A&W Root Beer stand during the 1960s and early 70s in Bronson, MI. During that time, he also played the saxophone in a local band. He eventually moved to Illinois where he began a career selling cars and dabbled in many other endeavors, retiring as owner of his own dealership. He loved his family and, most of all, enjoyed spending time with them. He enjoyed playing the saxophone, jazz music, cars, sports and spending time in the home that he built and took pride in. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life service will take place at his home on Sunday, Sept. 1, beginning at 12 noon. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Salvation Army.
