Obituary Condolences

Betsy L. George Abrahamson A memorial service for Betsy L. George Abrahamson, 76, a Naperville native, will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville. Interment is private. A memorial visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Born Sept. 2, 1934, in Oak Park, Ill., she passed away Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at her home at Monarch Landing in Naperville. Ms. Abrahamson was a graduate of Naperville High School and later of Dennison University in Ohio, where she received her bachelor's degree. She had taught at Washington Junior High School and later at Jefferson Junior High School when it opened and was known as Mrs. George to her many students. She was a member of the "Beach Bums" at Centennial Beach and taught swimming at both the beach and at the YMCA. In her spare time, she sang barbershop with the Choral-Aires chapter of Sweet Adelines, was a member of a Naperville bridge club for over 60 years, belonged to several book clubs and was an avid traveler. She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne George Compton of Naperville and Barbara George (Brad) Conforti-Smrcina of Chattanooga, Tenn.; grandchildren, Laurie, Brandon and Kayli Compton, and Nick and Alex Conforti; sister, Jane Abrahamson of Casco, Maine; and her canine companion, Bosca. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Kay George Murphy and her parents, Judge Melvin and Mary (nee Foster) Abrahamson.
