Obituary Condolences

Carl F. Rank Jr. Carl F. Rank Jr., 91, joined his Lord and Savior on Oct. 11, 2012. He was born in Chicago on May 20, 1921, to Carl and Lilly (nee Mein) Rank, and was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth and Allen. Carl devoted his life to caring for his family and will be dearly missed by his wife, Shirley, the love of his life for over 70 years; his daughters, Janet Spaletto (John) and Joanne Barfuss (Dennis); grandsons, Kurt Spaletto (Krista), Karl Spaletto, Scott Barfuss (Savannah) and Erik Barfuss (Miranda); great-grandchildren, Samuel, Aaron and Grace Spaletto and, Sheridan Barfuss; and his nieces, nephews and friends. Carl graduated from North Park College, served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a retired partner of L.J. Shaw Insurance Adjustment. A talented pianist and organist, he served both St. Stephens Lutheran Church and Medill Avenue Lutheran Church in Chicago. On Oct. 24,1942, Carl married his sweetheart in Victorville, CA, while training as a B-24 bombardier. Upon completing 53 missions in the South Pacific with the 13th Air Force, 307th Bombardment Group, he became a bombardier trainer in San Angelo, TX and also served as the base chapel organist. Carl and Shirley raised their family in Glenview before retiring in Arlington Heights. Carl will be remembered as a truly good man, a faithful servant of Christ, and a gentle, kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather. A memorial service will held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2328 Central Road, Glenview on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2328 Central Road, Glenview, IL 60025; Franciscan Court Supportive Living, 1996 Franciscan Way,West Chicago, IL 60185 or Addolorata Villa, 555 McHenry Road, Wheeling, IL 60090.
