Obituary Condolences

Charles H. Jessen of Mount Prospect Charles H. Jessen, 87, passed away peacefully on May 4th, 2013 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Margaret (Erickson) Jessen for 64 wonderful years. Loving father of Dale (Kathy) Jessen, Diane (Jim) Vogelgesang, and Donald Jessen. Loving grandfather of Patty (Joseph) Furco, Eric and Brian Vogelgesang, Nick and Linnea Jessen, and Claire Jessen. Loving great-grandfather of Maggie, Abby and Emily Furco. Chuck was born on June 19, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to Charles and Elsie (Oppelt) Jessen. He graduated from Austin High School in 1944, where he was Captain of the Gymnastics Team and President of the Camera Club. Notable achievements include Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow, and VP of the Chicago Cinema Club. He went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force as an Aerial Engineer on B-24's and was also a Staff Photographer while stationed in the South Pacific. He continued his military service with the Air Force Reserve until August 1970 and was discharged as a Captain. Chuck went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree in Earth Science and Psychology from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, graduating in June 1950, and continued his education at Indiana University, where he received his Masters Degree in Audio-Visual Education in August 1953. Chuck began his career teaching at Sycamore High School. He then moved to Michigan to organize the Audio-Visual Department for the Wayne County Library while also teaching at the graduate level for the University of Michigan. In 1959, he joined the Walt Disney organization as Vice- President and Regional Sales Manager for their educational film division in Park Ridge. In 1975, Chuck and Marge embarked on an adventure together and incorporated Mar/Chuck Film and Video, distributing educational films and videos to schools and libraries nationwide until his retirement in the early 1990s. He enjoyed photography, sailing, and spending time with family in the great outdoors at his "Camelot on the Lake" in Wisconsin. A graveside service and burial will be held on Thursday, May 9th at 2:00 pm at Ridgewood Memorial Park, 9900 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Des Plaines. At 7:00 pm, a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in The Chapel at Willow Creek Community Church, 67 E. Algonquin Road in South Barrington.
