SOUTH ELGIN - David G. Coombs, 74, of South Elgin passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, May 4 in his home. He was born June 22, 1943 in Elgin the son of George M. and Ada Ross Coombs. He had been a resident of the Elgin area all of his life and the last 46 years in South Elgin. He was employed as a truck driver before retiring. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Elgin. In his younger years he was a member of the Elgin Saddle Club. He was a former leader in the Webelos Cub Scouting. He loved camping and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Lois Bradley Coombs whom he married March 16, 1963, his 3 children, Paulette (Christopher) Daum, Christine (William) Greguras, David L. (Kelly) Coombs, 5 grandchildren, Anthony (Kristin), Cole (Rachael), Brian, Phillip and Karen, 6 great grandchildren, Tyler, Alainah, Gregory, Jaylen, Aria and William, 1 brother, Edwin Coombs, 2 sisters, Dorothy Taylor and Lucille (Ray) Schrieber. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Norm Coombs. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 11 at Zion Lutheran Church, Elgin with Rev. David Daubert officiating. Burial will be private at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 10 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Laird Funeral Home and on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services in the church.
