DONALD WILLIAM STETTNER Obituary
Donald William Stettner, 88, of Elgin, passed away on Saturday September 14, 2013 at Highland Oaks. He was born in Elgin on December 23, 1924, to the late Otto and Lydia (Reber) Stettner. Don graduated from Elgin High School in 1943. After high school, he served in both England and France with the U.S. Army during World War II. Subsequently, he worked for McBride Brothers Buick and later, he was employed by Modern Dairy. After retiring from the dairy, he worked at the Apostolic Christian Resthaven. On November 30, 1947, he married the late Nan Jean Hansen. They made their home in Elgin and raised three children, David (Kathy) Stettner of Shanon, IL, Donna (Craig) Young of Elgin,IL and Linda Stettner Fehrman of Canonsburg, PA. He is also survived by two sisters, Marilyn (Gordon) Bryant of Venice FL. and Joanne Peaslee of Venice, FL.; six grandchildren, Kelly (Dean) Geiseman, Dana (Aaron) Patrick, Mike Young, Eric (Teri) Young, Lisa (Dan) Boyd and Nikki (Scott) Carlson and nine great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including his dear friend, Blanche Betts. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nan, brother John (Chuck) Stettner and brother-in-law Fred Peaslee. Don was active in the Apostolic Christian Church where he was a member and volunteered at the Apostolic Nursing Home. He loved sports and was an avid fisherman. He had a love for music and enjoyed playing the harmonica and guitar, gardening and yard work. More than anything, he was generous and always willing to lend a helping hand, a tool, or share vegetables from his garden. Visitation will be Thursday, September 19th from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Apostolic Fellowship Center at 2760 W. Highland Ave., Elgin, IL 60124 and on Friday morning in the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 20th, at 10 a.m. at the Apostolic Christian Church, 2740 W. Highland Ave., Elgin, IL 60124. Burial will follow in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Highland Oaks 2750 W. Highland Ave., Elgin, IL 60124.
